Q-Park has won Best New Car Park at the prestigious British Parking Awards 2018 for its facility Deansgate North, Manchester. The British Parking Awards (BPA) were launched by Parking Review magazine in 2002 and were immediately recognised as the ultimate recognition of excellence and achievement in parking management, design and innovation. Since then, Q-Park UK has won eight awards in the BPA and been finalists or commended for many more.

Q-Park Deansgate North is situated in Manchester City Centre as part of Embankment, a new office development with 165,000ft2 Grade A office space and 442 parking spaces. Just a two minute walk from Manchester Arena and a five minute walk to the Arndale Shopping Centre in the heart of Manchester City Centre, the car park not only serves the surrounding new office buildings, but also Manchester Arena visitors, shoppers, hotel guests, and local students.

In July 2017, Q-Park opened its doors and shutters to the brand new, purpose built car park. The area had been a surface car park for decades upon the shutdown of the Exchange Train Station after it closed to passengers in 1969. In keeping with the history, surrounding local area, and existing railway arches, Q-Park worked with local archaeologists and planners to develop a design that was sympathetic to the building.

The interior is also impressive. As well as a unique floor coating style, Q-Park only uses high quality, future proof materials and wherever possible, construction materials were locally sourced, including stone from a local quarry in Manchester and steel from Halifax.

At Q-Park Deansgate North, the painted walls and LED energy-efficient, motion-sensor lights create a well-lit and secure car park, ensuring there are no hidden or dark areas making it safer for customers.

The parking facility has disability access and a customer lavatory. Convenient services, such as a shoe shine machine, umbrella hire, and heart defibrillator can also be accessed in the car park.

Mark Pawson, Senior Project Manager at Q-Park, said ‘I am really pleased to receive the award on behalf of Q-Park. The scheme itself was extremely challenging. Due to the site constraints, the external envelope of the scheme was to be retained which meant the internal demolition had to be carried out with great care, whilst the interior had to marry to Q-Park’s design criteria. The result is the wonderful car park in an easily accessible location for people visiting Manchester.’

Q-Park arrived in the UK in 2001 and is now one of the UK’s leading car park companies with 60 car parking facilities housing some 50,000 parking spaces in key locations in the UK with over 15 million visitors every year. (Including Aberdeen, Birmingham, Cardiff, Croydon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham, Reading, Sheffield and York.)

Q-Park partner with many different organisations to offer discounted parking to their customers. One such organisation is SOLT (Society of London Theatres) where theatre goers are given a 50% discount when they visit a West End Theatre.

Q-Park has won a RoSPA Health & Safety Award and also holds 59 ParkMark Safer Parking Scheme accreditations, 15 European Standard Parking Awards (ESPA) and a Silver Investors in People Award.
